terms of use & acceptable use policy
shred is a free, no-account tool for sharing temporary files. files are encrypted in your browser before upload — the operator can't read your file contents, filenames, keys, or passphrases. by uploading or downloading, you agree to the terms below.
what you may not use shred for
you agree not to upload, share, or link to content that:
- is child sexual abuse material (CSAM), or sexualizes minors in any way
- is malware, ransomware, phishing kits, or meant to compromise other systems
- you don't have the right to share (copyright, trade secrets, someone else's personal data)
- facilitates violence, terrorism, trafficking, or other serious crimes
- violates any applicable law in your jurisdiction or the operator's
zero-knowledge isn't a free pass
client-side encryption protects your privacy; it's not a license to store illegal content. the operator hosts and transmits the encrypted data and will act on valid reports and legal process.
reporting abuse & takedowns
every file has its own link. anyone holding a link can report the file using report abuse on its download page — this pauses downloads immediately, pending review, without the operator ever needing to decrypt it. reported files are then reviewed and either removed or restored. you can also send a takedown or law-enforcement request to brandon@btea.dev.
retention
- files auto-delete at their chosen expiry (up to 30 days) or on download limit; reported files are paused for review
- no accounts, no content logging — minimal operational metadata may be kept to respond to abuse reports and legal process
no warranty
shred is provided as-is, with no guarantee of availability, delivery, or durability. don't use it as your only copy of anything. the operator isn't liable for lost data or how others use the service.
